Amanda Berry (born April 22, 1986) is an American woman who was kidnapped in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 21, 2003, at the age of 16. She was held captive for over ten years, along with Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, by Ariel Castro.
On May 6, 2013, Berry escaped from the house with the help of a neighbor, Charles Ramsey. Her 911 call led to the immediate arrest of Castro and the rescue of DeJesus and Knight.
During her captivity, Berry gave birth to a daughter, Jocelyn Berry, in 2006. Castro was the father. Berry worked to protect her daughter during their imprisonment.
Following her rescue, Berry co-authored a memoir, "Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland," with Gina DeJesus. She has also become an advocate for missing persons and victims of abduction. Berry has tried to maintain a private life while dealing with the aftermath of her traumatic experience.
